Phillistia (Aegypt)Government: Military Province Pantheon: Aegyptian < Canaanite> < Hebrew> Ruler: Gov. Gen. Zigith Capital: Gerar (Pop.: 25k) Other Cities (and pop.): Gath: 20k Maghara: 10k Raphia: 10k Serbat: 10k Loc.: Azir (Sinai Peninsula) Language: Aegyptian Pop.: 350k Flag/Emblem: Flag: White skull wreathed in red flames, on a black field (Military banner only.) Emblem: Lion breathing flames. Coinage: None. Important Persons: Shakes of cities and towns, priests, military officers. Alliances: Province (march) of Aegypt. Hostilities: Shamash, Yarbay. Open Warfare/Skirmishing: Continual skirmishing on borders, but full-scale warfare only possible upon Pharaonic command or enemy attack. Intrigues: Other than intrastate and personal quite unlikely. Magickal Devices: The spear Ragahgol is reputed to be the most potent weapon of military combat possessed by the Phillistines. With it is the shield called Megath. < The Invincible Black Destroyer> Alignment: Neutral Good <paramanders> Thumbnail Sketches: See Aegypt for more details. Although the AREA ov this realm is the size ov the Avillonian in Hibernia, it is so barren as to be strained in supporting a pop. ov 1/10th that realm's own. The pop. ov the Sinai is composed ov 80% Phillistines, ov most warlike nature, greatly opposed to the neighboring Shamish && Yarban peoples since ancient times. Some Phillistines have drifted westwards into the region ov the Nylle River delta, but most remain in the harsh land they have been settled in for nearly 3,000 ans (years). Because ov this, they have willingly served && are likewise supported by their Aegyptian overlords. There are few resources on the peninsula, save for copper, turquoise, && iron mines--&& some small amount ov petroleum recently discovered there. The inhabitants earn a precarious living through herding, some small amount ov agriculture, fishing, TRADE && mercantile pursuits, && their capacity w/ arms.

Another with a cool story (perhaps an adventure lead), Quote:Judith Beheading Holofernes - Caravaggio, 1599 Quote:Artemisia Gentileschi's painting Judith Beheading Holofernes Quote:Judith Cutting Off the Head of Holofernes by Trophime Bigot (circa 1640). The Walters Art Museum Quote:In the deuterocanonical Book of Judith, Holofernes was an invading general of Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar dispatched Holofernes to take vengeance on the nations of the west that had withheld their assistance to his reign. Holofernes occupied all the nations along the sea coast and destroyed all the gods of the nations, so that all nations would worship Nebuchadnezzar alone. Holofernes was warned by Achior, the leader of the children of Ammon, against attacking the Jewish people. Holofernes and his followers were angered by Achior. They rebuked him, insisting that there was no god other than Nebuchadnezzar. The general laid siege to Bethulia, commonly believed to be Meselieh, and the city almost surrendered. Holofernes' advance stopped the water supply to Bethulia. The people lost heart and encouraged Ozias and their rulers to give way. The leaders vowed to surrender if no help arrived within five days. Bethulia was saved by Judith, a beautiful Hebrew widow who entered Holofernes's camp and seduced him. Judith then beheaded Holofernes while he was drunk. She returned to Bethulia with the severed head, and the Hebrews defeated the enemy. Hebrew versions of the tale in the Megillat Antiochus and the Chronicles of Jerahmeel identify "Holoferenes" as Nicanor whence the name "Holofernes" in the Greek version would be a deliberately cryptic name similar to the use of "Nebuchadnezzar" for Antiochus. Quote:Dead Sea, Jordan Finally exiting the putrid lifeless water, you peer into an endless dark opening, covered in gritty rock crystals; it would of been beautiful save for the dank smell and bone-colored minerals that looked like sharp teeth. It even seems to be sweating! The fishermen said the evil hags that haunt the area reside in here, serving the Troll Lord and his minions. Gulping and trying to ignore the odor that makes your stomach turn, you pull yourself up to stand in the yawning mouth. This better be worth the gold the Baron promised! Shem Mesopotamia, Syria, Palestine, and Arabia. In the Bible, Shem is Noah's eldest son, the ancestor of the Hebrews, Arabs and Assyrians; hence, the modern "Semite" and Semitic languages (via Greek Sem), used properly to designate the family of languages spoken by these peoples. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyborian_Age#Etymology
