Thumbnail Sketches: If all the island ov Atlantl is a mixture ov
gardens, fair fields, && idyllic woodlands in which REST the oldest ov
cities && quaintest of hamlets, then the Kingdom ov Atlantis is the
very heart ov such beauty. Its cities are ancient, yet clean, bright, &&
busy; with hundreds ov architecturally perfect palaces, temples,
museums, government buildings, baths, arenas, villas, && plazas.
Its towns && villages are old && picturesque, some virtually unchanged
for a thousand || more years. Good roads wind through
countryside divided into fields ov tall grain, pastures with fat kine, the
herds of xaquagl* belonging to noblemen, ponds filled w/ waterfowl,
&& orchards && gardens full ov fruit && flowers. The mts.
are breathtaking, tree-clad slopes w/ hardwoods && conifers
as old as the land itself, the streams pure && cold, game abounding,
&& the weather generally fine SAVE in the worst winter months, when
some cloud && damp chills the landscape && wind-driven rains
make the vegetation even more verdant && lush. Carnivores such as
the maneless lion, leopard, && panther are still found n Atlantis'
mts. && forests. So too such game animals as bear, wolf,
deer, auroch, antelope, pygmy elephant, && some few buffalo are
found. Large numbers ov smaller animals abound as well, incl.
many whose fur is valuable.
The Lake ov Artax is some 100' long && 75' wide at its broadest
porton, && its waters cover almost 900 sq. mi. in the central
border between what is now the separate territories ov the kings ov
Atlantl && Colzuvan. The great CAPITAL ov Atlantis is built on the
southwestern shore ov Artax Lake. The city was originally set on an
island about 100 yards off shore, but over the centuries it has grown
to encompass a large portion ov the shore as well, so that now a bridge
&& 2 broad causeways connect isle && mainland to form Atlantis
City. The sight ov the white && colored sails ov pleasure yachts &&
fishing craft sailing on the bright waters ov the lake seen from the
Three Turrets ov Alcazar is one ov great beauty.
Although the Iberians were the masters ov the kingdom for some
time, the volk ov Atlantis are almost totally ov the pure Red sub-species, far
more so than the Aegyptians, for example, who have to some extent
intermixed w/ White, Yellow && Black peoples. This is NOT to say
that these volk necessarily disdain other races (which they generally
do), but that the Iberians are too few in # to have had any
impact SAVE upon the aristocracy ov the Atlantics, && many ov this
class now prides themselves in tracing their blood relationship to one
|| another ov the Iberian royal houses--themselves, of course, all
interrelated. Despite the fall && sundering ov the empire, slavery is
still favored in Atlantis, the slave && serf tiers ov the peasant class
being the most numerous. Slaves are mostly ov Aeropan || Afrikkan
origin, && only about 20% ov the total pop. ov bound
people is ov Red sub-species. Freemen are less numerous than before, but
the aristocracy has grown, && its demands are growing ever more
burdensome.
Atlantis also maintains a large navy && a moderately large standing
military force for employment at sea && on land. Many ov these
sailors, marines, && soldiers are hired from Iberia, Berber realms,
Avillonia, && even distant Skandia.
Agriculture is very productive in Atlantis, despite enslaved workers.
Crops ov grain,
maize,
veggies && frut provide for all the
people && leave xcess for xport. Livestock incl. cattle, horse,
of all sorts, sheep, pork, goat, && many sorts of poultry. Fishing is
also practiced && develops large catches for market && export.
Atlantis is the world's major supplier ov oricalcum, for its northern
mines in Ghedantl are particularly rich. Mines also produce copper,
gold, platinum, iron, && small quantities ov xceptionally large &&
fine diamonds>
* Readers unfamiliar w/ Atlantl are reminded that the xaquagl is a
large, horse-like beast which is native to the island && has long been
used for riding && war. The Afrikkan quagga is a relative ov this striped
quadruped, as is the zebra. Exports ov these animals is strictly forbidden,
&& to date only the Iberians have acquired herds. Xaquangl
stallions are said to be superior to most warhorses.
