Remember that Gary had considered dropping Psi [sic:cf.DJ2] from the game.
Yet, psychogenix were incl in both DJ && LA.
I think the reason for this consideration, on the part of Gary, was one of playability, more than anything.
If you are lucky enough to be actually playing tabletop AD&D (real AD&D)
I heartily recommend using PHBR5 The Complete Psionics Handbook, in place of the BtB 1E Psi rules.
Even better, a simpler system of your own devising.
Still scratching my head with regards to Weapon vs. NAC (Natural Armor Class) , though , lol !
Simplify it, don't drop it.
