I've always loathed calling it 2.5E. I also loathed calling UA 1.5E.
When it came out in the 90s, I used it. I liked it but as I got older, realized a less is more thing is better. I don't use it now.

I don't use it now. Posting as a guest cause I am 99.9% lurker and .1% poster, but here I have to say that with most things, use what you want and ditch the rest. I recently compiled a few volumes that we use in our campaigns that takes information from all of the splat books, player n dm options books and other sources just to get everything into a few books that we use at the table indtead of referring to a giant libraey of material. I say volumes, but really they are just the spells and whatever rules we use from those books, and character classes inspired from the hundreds of kits and Dragon Mag articles I've come across.

I probably should have said that each of the following is its own book:
Priest Spells Wizard Spells Proficiencies Magic Item Compendium Character Classes
*I know that these have all been done before, but these work best for us; much more so than what I found from other folks' efforts in making big compilations like these
