Lousy Gambison: The Halcyon of D&D and other Makeshifts. A Variable Combat Factor System Starting Tack: Lousy Gambison, Club, 5 spears to the Atl-Atl. One must take measured care of their padded mail, and ensure the crest upon the suit maintains itself. Next Set is that of the Crimson Hauberk...one's suit renders one chesty, save the weak-points rendered by newfound confidence. Herein the wildermen grow more cunning. Beyond which is the Encasement, the level of wares that require one to hold a retinue. Forfeiture of this status drops one to Starting Tack. This system doesn't have any egress to actuality as yet, it's pure concept as yet, but the idea is to cyclically enable different paradigms within the D&D meta-verse. In other words, one no longer needs to use level-drains to get to the "shivering broke in the rain" style of D&D.

I think it'll modify THAC0 on a staggering of 2 fighter levels, with the obvious implication of what it entails to M-Us, plus a rung-notch for the grizzled. Basically a 6 level cap on the corporeal fighting qualities.
Alternately, and preferentially, in the B/X grade of things, the tiers adjust themselves accordingly.

Within this D&D context, there'll only be the choice of Fighter, Thief, M-U, along with Elf, which is the alternating between M-U and Fighter variant.
In addition is the Wilderman bestial race, optional as a Player Character choice. They play as Fighters capping at the "Hauberk" grade, with Jabbal Sag-esque animal control powers.

And of course, as the Gambeson is full of Lice, the Wilderman can make the ill-equipped have problems.

Vondan asked if I were to make a system what type of dice I'd use. It triggered the desire to make repeated snake-eyes cause some form of misfortune on a per-session basis, to make the game more combat-adverse.

Here's more rules to the setting.
The Warding If 3 sets of snake-eyes are rolled by a player in a single sitting, that player's character is in for some fiat woe. This encourages further the use of weapons that utilize singular D's
Weaponry in Lousy Gambeson variant is based on scaling pools of D6en, with daggers and suchlike being singular value, swords and other equivalents of such measure 2D6, and two-handers being 3D6 weapons generally. Two-handers are a woeful prospect, given The Warding rule.
As the game is based on Armour value, it entails a hit point system akin to Gamma World 1e, with HP being a set value with an Armour Value multiplier. EG, a CON 9 man has 9 HP in his briefs, 18 in his Gambeson, 27 in Hauberk and 36 at Encasement Tier.
