Weapons
Black-powder weapons.
Blackpowder weapons are common in the badlands, as unlike true firearms, blackpowder technology is self sufficient in the badlands. Blackpowder weapons shoot a ball down a barrel with blackpowder (and not the more powerful smokeless powders used in modern firearms) at it target. Since each rifle is generally hand made, each rifle depending on it's design will have various modifications.
The base cost of a single shot handgun is $20, a Rifle is $40. Revolvers add $25 dollars to the cost.
Base damage is 1d12 Rifle base weight is 10 lbs Pistol base Weight is 4 lbs (Pistol weighting under 1 pound is viewed as negligible).
Caliber
There are 4 common Calibers used in black-powder weapons
.36 Caliber: +2 to hit, -2 to damage. Can carry 20 per pound of shot. .46 Caliber: +1 to hit, -1 to damage. Can carry 15 per pound of shot. .50 Caliber: No modifer. Can Carry 12 per pound of shot. .65 Caliber: -1 to hit, +1 to damage. Can carry 10 per pound of shot.
Length of barrel
Extra short -2 to hit, -4 pounds (Rifle), -2 (pistol) , -5 dollars in cost
Short - 1 to Hit, -2 pounds (rifle) -1 (pistol), -3 dollars in cost
Normal No modification
Long +1 to hit, +2 pounds (rifle) +1 (pistol), +5 in cost
Extra Long +2 to hit, +4 pounds (rifle) +2 (pistol), +8 in cost
Rifle or Smooth-bore
Rifling will give a +2 to hit. however it ads two rounds to reloading. (Unless revolver). Rifling ads 10 dollars in cost. max range is 100 feet for smoothbore, 250 for rifle (/10 for pistols)
Flintlock or Percussion cap. Both use nearly the same technology, Flint locks use a reusable flint to cause sparks to set off blackpowder. Percussion caps use a small cap that goes over a nipple that provides the spark, but is one time use (Thus, Percussion caps must be purchased for each shot.
Flintlocks have a 1 in 4 chance of failure if they get wet. Cleaning and drying a flintlock takes 1 TURN. However they do not need to buy anything as long as the flint is not damaged in a critical failure.
Revolvers Revolvers allow six shots to be loaded prior to firing. However reloading a revolver takes 12 rounds (2 rounds per chamber) It adds 1 pound to a pistol, and 5 pounds to a rifle.
example guns.

Have a few notes on what the hell happened to the nearby, non-US places such as the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada.

And if you do, and make these known places, maybe have a limit on where's known. E.G., Mexico explorers disappear south of the Yucatan or Canada explorers keep getting captured by the tribes who insist that they only want to sacrifice their captives' screaming when they try to visit Nova Scotia.

And if you do, and make these known places, maybe have a limit on where's known. E.G., Mexico explorers disappear south of the Yucatan or Canada explorers keep getting captured by the tribes who insist that they only want to sacrifice their captives' screaming when they try to visit Nova Scotia. there is some limits. New England is now known as the "Commonwealth", no real government, but there are settlements and so on. NYC-Philly-Newark is still a wasteland due to Chinese Super-nukes. DC area is the Capital badland. It a place people explore, but try not to live as it is rad heavy. Kentucky->Tennesee is known as the bluegrass states - lots of horse farming and they breed horses and then sell them. Supply most of the east coast. Pitt-Cincy-louisville is known as the Ohio Valley states. Riverborne traffic. There is still settlements in Chicago, but its beyond most people knowledge. The midwest beyond Ohio is true wasteland. Though mutated buffalo live among the rad-storms. Some might go hunt the herds. Beyond the midwest, only information comes from New Canaanite (Mormon) missionaries from Utah who have traveled past the herds to spread the word. Florida has three major settlement areas - JAX, the Bay (Tampa Bay), and the great Swamp. Miami is mostly underwater. Since we have Canadians on board, The Republic of Hamilton is the main settlement - as unlike Detroit, Toronto, and Buffalo, it wasn't hit. Up on St. Lawrence there is the French speaking settlements. No one knows what happened to the west coast of Canada.
