Got to say 2e is pretty darn good at Thieves. Thac0 19 at level 3, choose what kind of tief ya want to be by putting the points there, some nice new weapons (Blow Pipe, Hand Crissbow) and still only 1250XP for the first 3 levels. I really like them

Guys, should we make 2e the official system for the Aerth campaign? Myself, I design with 1e, so, I am sorta scratchin' me 'ed, ear. ^ Prespos, robbing a TSR lawyer ^ "Payback's a bitch, motherfucker." - Prespos the Thief

The price for the flexibility is a loss in power and, for a class as weak as a Thief, that power loss is considerable. Eventually, the 1e thief becomes two and three levels stronger than its 2e counterpart. I prefer the 1e thief, to be honest.

As the last poster said, though, the total amount of %'s is less, so to really give them a break/make the class shine, giving +5% across the board, to the base chances, would be a nice house rule. actually, climb is high enough, so I gave it to RL. EX: PP 20% OL 15% F/RT 10% MS 15% HiS 10% CW 60% RL 10%* * RL only is allowed/gained at L4 then the +60 (max 30 in any one) at L1 & +30 at every additional level I'd consider adding on the abilities introduced in the DMO high level campaigns & PO skills & powers too, but as FREE options bribe 10% escape bonds 15% At L4 :tunneling 20% (along with RL) At L10: detect illusion 15% detect magic 10% also changing use scroll to be based on RL makes sense to me: either go with half RL chance the same way magic traps are half F/RT chance, or just use the RL% starting at L10. oh, and the DMO option of going over 95% (only useful to counter penalties) would be used, of course, for thieves L11+
