Armys are formed like adventuring partys Roll stats I suggest OD&D for simplicity. There is a main army we will be using the Mountain Cantons for example
King Robert I L3 Warlord STR 16s luck 13 25 HP AC 15 D8+3 damage Tactican X3
Xur L3 Fireball thrower 2d6 area effect Luck save for half Cure Army Woulnds 2d4 dispel magic(preped as counter spell) Magic missle 3d4+3 Luck 10 15 HP
Canton Army(Heavy Infantry) x5 L3 Fighter St,Cn and WIS 15, the rest 12 Luck 10 Pikes(reach) 25hp
(left behind in Cantons)
Non Combatants L2 Fighter 12,s Luck 8 17 HP AC 15 D8 Damage +1
Xur's students L1 Wizard 7 HP AC14

Thanks for the input... does CRYPTS & THINGS have mass combat rules? I'm still trying to figure out a simple system. One of the problems is figuring out the tax income that you are owed (which can be raised to pay for the troops), and, determining the exact size & composition of one's forces. Prespos Ps. In the case of King Robert I, the pressing issue is Savoy, to the west. Alson, God-King chris107 has been 'courting' you, trying to get you to ally with him in a war against Francia. Ps2. The entry for Helvetia has some basic info about the armed forces. Ps3. This will eventually get moved to the Aerth sub-forum, but, in the meantime, it's OK to keep it here.

Interesting stuff: could you explain the system a bit more, please? Yesterday, I was researching the RULES CYCLOPEDIA, and the Mass Combat rules were pretty interesting, and, straight forward. Next on the research list: DIPLOMACY, BIRTHRIGHT, and certain articles in DRAGON magazine. I just thought it would be fun to run a quasi-PbP here, and, invite everyone. (Of course, some will neither have the time and/or inclination). Prespos Ps. What's interesting are the Alliances && Hostilities. Attacking one country can have serious repercussions, if it is part of an alliance! Ps2. Battle of Agincourt... which might happen in King Chris I decides to attack Francia!

Ok basicly I'm thinking just treat the units like OD&D PCs and the battles would be just like two adventuring parties fighting, we can add as much "Flavor" as wanted, I'm sort of partial to the idea that the rules be left "clean' and the complexity would come from abilities for various unit types. What I have posted up to now is just stream of thought on various army's and bits of ideas, we can fiddle with my idea at our leisure, and if you dont want to do it my way,who cares, it was a fun little thing I did last night!!!!!I def not saying IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY!

Tacticians would be treated like a sort of "spell" caster with a SMALL "spellbook" of things they could do, as per normal D&D ,everything would be "memorized"

if we don't want to do AC we could do basicly, light medium, heavy and super heavy armor, but I dont see why we cant just use AC.

Looking over my ideas of last night I think Ive gone a little to large on most armies in terms of number of units I think everythinhg needs to be scaled back in terms of that going to a system of 3-5 TOTAL units per army, to keep down the simplicity, ah well work in progress!

Seems like a pretty simple && solid system to me. The problem with (A)D&D mass combat rules (CHAINMAIL, SWORDS & SPELLS, BATTLESYSTEM) is that they really do not translate well, over a forum. Another problem is that the 3 aforementioned systems do not really cover strategic level warfare (logistics, troop movements, political alliances, etc.). As well, I like the thought of giving everyone complete artistic control over their realm. What I post is just one of many alternate Aerths, by no means "canon" or official. Although I generally think in 1e terms, that's just my point of view. As always, feel free to use your favorite system(s)! Prespos
