There is certainly a lot of game mechanics that have , as far as I know, never been used in a CRPG. Such as, weapon vs. armor type - or is that implemented in the Gold Box games, under the hood? The mind boggles at the thought of getting all that is contained in the DMG operating in a computer program.
I think the Infinity Engine (2nd edition) might actually be a better implementation of the "one minute round" in some respects, as it depicts a bunch of movement and jostling about, shows the characters attacking even when their actual "attack roll" hasn't come up yet. But, it doesn't use the classic AoO for withdrawing.
Another mechanic I haven't seen used is missiles into melee, Gold Box games just let you fire away, as do Infinity Engine games. It's little wonder then that missile weapons are extra powerful in those games.

Weapon Type vs. AC is not implemented in the GB/UA games, though, it would be very easy to do.
I absolutely agree with your comment about missile weapons.
