Picts Pre-Columbian America, with an overlay of North America during the European colonization of the Americas, possibly even colonial-era New York. Howard bestows names from Iroquoian languages on many of his Hyborian-Age Picts (but not the quasi-historical Picts featuring Bran Mak Morn). Note that the name "Pict" comes from the Latin language term for "painted one", which could be applicable to a number of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. The historical termed Picts were a confederation of Celtic tribes in central and northern Scotland which bordered Roman Britain. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyborian_Age#Etymology

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Iroukia (pg. 111) The Iroukia peoples dwell in longhouses made of wooden poles and covered by sheets of bark, and in fact refer to themselves as ho-de-no-sau-nee (“people of the longhouse”). There is a smoke hole in the roof over an enclosed fire hearth, and several families live in each structure. Their towns are often surrounded by palisades; constructed from tall, wooden stakes. They manufacture canoes from wooden frames covered by birch bark slabs. Their clans are traced matrilineal and women enjoy a fairly high status within this culture. The tribes will sometimes meet in a Grand Council of 50 sachems (chiefs). These people hunt deer, duck, turkey, and small game as well as raising maize, beans, squash, apples, and strawberries. The forests in their area are largely of maple, oak, birch, hornbeam, sassafras, sumac, pitch pine, and white pine. Bow and arrows, carved wooden clubs and tomahawk are the preferred weapons of battle. The ganeo'q, the drum-dance of thanks, and the ostowegowa, great feather dance of thanks, both to their creator god (Haweniyo), are quite interesting. The wasase is their dance of war. An alliance between the Potawatomi, Miami and Shawnee tribes to the west, formed to repel Æropean invaders, is viewed as a potential threat as it unites a population of over 30,000.

Giant brown recluse spiders are found in the lands of Iroukia. As well, the expected bears, wolves, && tribesmen are to be found here. Homicidal giant silver carp are found in the rivers of Iroukia, and, present a danger to those trying to ford rivers. (Thanks: Bloated Blowfish, Atherton)

Now I find out about this. BTW, have you heard of the Facebook group? In any case I would not call Iroukia Chaotic/Evil, but Lawful/Neutral if we're using D&D alignments. Using DJ Ethoi I'd put them in the Ethos of Moonlight. Where their government is concerned, it's more a sort of grand council of the various heads of nations and tribes, with a cabal of older ladies providing advice one is wise to listen to. In any case I thank the author of the OP for his work.

Hi mythusmage!
You are most welcome. I should revisit the Facebook group. Is it the Dangerous Journeys group?
Regarding the alignment of the Iroukia, this was randomly generated. Mea culpa there, I guess. Also, some of the government forms (for other realms) were randomly generated, as well.
The idea was to use Aerth as an AD&D setting. I am thinking of putting up all of this work for 'adoption', if somehow someone can archive it all. I had great fun doing this. Some may wonder why I don't continue.
The reason has something to do with Frank Mentzer's ban from Dragonsfoot.
In 2012, I was permanently banned from the DF forums, although they let me continue in the DFL. Steve, mercyful like Frodo, perhaps. The Dragonsfoot Lounge was my home on the internet. I would spend part of each day with my friends over there. At a certain point, I decided to try to reincarnate/resurrect the Aerth setting, this time for the AD&D game. I did literally thousands of posts over a few months. I have no idea how I did that. Many of the images were from Theslo of Qualon (I got permission for this). Now, 90% of the creative content came my friends in the Lounge. I accepted everything, without question. Many were exceptionally creative individuals, and, I had to type at light speed, in order to keep pace with the flow of ideas. Good times, back then.
Then, Frank was banned. One Lounge regular decided to leave DF, with this being one of the reasons. We all moved over to the Discord site, then. I thought it was a stupid idea then, and, I think it was stupid a idea Now. I was friends with pretty much everyone in the Lounge. One day, I decided to go AWOL, wandering off into the metaphorical wilderness in search of metaphorical mangoes, while my friends waited for me in the metaphorical boat. I never said goodbye to the Lounge crew, as I didn't want to cause any drama. I look back on that as a real dick move, as the saying goes.
I didn't want to continue work on the Aerth project without my friends, and, I didn't want to continue the Castle Loungehawk project without my friends either. Although Frank didn't hang out in the Lounge, I always considered him to be a friend, and, he was very kind to allow me to watch his text AD&D campaign over at DF.
Bassically, Frank was exiled, left out in the wilderness to die. He's banned from Gary Con as well. I have a family member who has offered to pay for a trip to Gary Con 2020, and, I still don't know if I really want to go anymore. I guess I should, to network with other 1e fans.
These days, I am at the Weekend ADVANCED DUNGEONS && DRAGONS Group, over at Facebook. I run T1-4 once a year or so. (It was written by Gary and Frank). Between games, I work on the 1eo site.
