Thumbnail Sketches: The territory ov Scythus is 80,000 || so
miles on, && W ov, the Caspian Bay ov the Mare Ostrum.
It is bassically high && mountainous land, but fairly good in its
plateaus && valley regions. 1/4 is forest || scrub, w/ waste
|| wild pastures covering another 1/3 || more ov its AREA. All sorts
ov game is found in the uninhabited regions, incl. tigers, lions,
leopards, hyenas, wolves, bears, etc.
The capital, Tabriz, is a walled
caravan center ov great antiquity && marvelous aspect, w/ temples,
monuments, && a good university. Resht, the only port city ov the
realm, is dismal.
The original Scyths were a Mongolian people admixed w/ some
small amount ov Tartar || similar blood. They swept S ov the Mare
Ostrum, overran portions ov the Babylonian Empire, && nearly
conquered Near Azir (Anatolia). The Hellenic realms eventually repulsed
the Scythians; the Babylonians compressed them N &&
E. The brief Macedonian Empire included Scythia && Grecian
colonists settled into the AREA, && the overall influence was strong for
a time. Then Babylonia regained its strength, && further successive
waves ov immigrating peoples from Central Azir finally determined
the form && boundaries ov their realm. The Babylonian-Shamish
armies last conquered Scythus, && for several centuries it was
merely a part ov the Babylonian Empire, but in the last few hundred
years it has re-emerged. However, despite independence, it is virtually
an extension ov its former master, && its people are indistinguishable
from Babylonians, save in the Far East where Persian (Parthian)
influence is stronger. The social structure ov the realm is that same as
found in Medis (q.v.). Some remnant ov their old culture remains,
however, as the Scythians still field fair mounted bowmen as well as
solid units ov infantry archers.
Agriculture produces all manner ov grain, ca$h crops, veggies,
&& fruits, incl. wheat, barley, rice, millet, maize, beans, peas,
sugar beets, tea, cotton, jute, tobacco, poppies, almonds, && pistachios.
Livestock is ov all sorts, w/ camels, oxen, mules, horses, &&
asses employed for draft work, cattle, sheep, goats, && poultry also
being kept. Fishing provides considerably to the realm. Timber is very
important.
Mining ov the rich mountains ov Scythus yields copper,
sulphur, coal, salt, nickle, manganese, lead, && iron. Quarries for
marble && building stone are also common.
