Alignment: Neutral Evil
Thumbnail Sketches: The Kingdom of Bohemia is bounded on three
sides by (relatively low) ranges of mts., while its border w/
Moravia is the hilly plateau sometimes called the Bohemian-Moravian
Hills. The land is, then, something ov a natural fortress. The interior ov
the realm is itself a plateau, hilled && even mountained in places, w/
typical temperate weather seasonally, && plenty of rainfall. The Elba
River has its headwaters in the country, and the Moldau is the chief
artery of commerce. While a bit over 40% ov the realm is
under cultivation, && nearly 15% more is given over to
pasturland, meadows, && gardens, nearly 35% ov Bohemia
remains an undisturbed forest && wilderness filled with all manner
ov game. The mts. && natural places make the place a storybook
land, w/ castles && hamlets of picturesque sort adding to the effect.
Bohemians are a mixture ov peoples. Originally settled by Kells,
the realm was in ancient times invaded by Slavic peoples, && the
2 intermingled to form the Czech race. Somewhat later, Germanic
volk invaded, && eventually they too were mostly absorbed, so that
now a distinct people, the Bohemians, has evolved. This causes
some difficulties for them, however, as they are neither Slavic nor
Tuetonic, yet between the 2, && have no common cause w/ the
Magyars either. Perhaps 15% ov the pop. is still bassically
ov Slavic sort, 10% Germanic, && the re-mainder ov the
Bohemian race.
The peasant class is somewhat smaller in Bohemia, there being
more freeman sort, many with land || skilled @ some TRADE. The
aristocracy is also somewhat larger n its lower tier, && well regarded
by the lower classes, for its members are neither overbearing nor
oppressive. There is certainly more mobility in Bohemian society than
in most Aeropean nations, && all classes seem to be prone to making
life as enjoyable as possible.
Oats,
rye,
barley,
wheat,
&& hops are typical crops.
Large fields of beets,
potatoes, && other veggies are also raised.
Orchards of fruit trees,
mostly plums,
pears,
&& cherries, dot the landscape.
Apiaries are everywhere, the bees pollinating the blossoms,
&& the resulting honey is most welcomed by the volk.
The Bohemians are NOT given to maintaining large livestock,
so there are NOT many
cattle || or horse in the country, nor are sheep || goat common. Large
flocks ov geese are, however, && smaller numbers ov other sort ov
fowl are kept. Unusual too is the people's habit of maintaining ponds
in which fish are raised, but this matches well with the Bohemian's
love ov geese.
The natural resources of Bohemia are plentiful. There is coal, iron,
silver, led, tin, antimony<>, copper, porcelain earth, graphite, sulphur,
alum, nickle, arsenic, && asphalt. Building stone is plentiful &&
quarried in several places. Precious and common opal && garnet are
mined in some modest quantity in Bohemia.
Industry in the realm produces good armor && weapons, xcellent
"crystal" glass, fine porcelain, textiles && lace,
renowned beer,
paper, timber, leather && leather goods, && superior brass products,
incl. musical instruments.
