AREA. The Rhodope Mountains are at the western boundary between
Thrace && Macedonia, w/ hills gradually leveling E ov the Uxine
River to the plateaus ov the peninsula, bounded by the Mare Ostrum
on the N, the Bosporus && the opposite, the Byzantine shore,
&& the Sea ov Marmara on the S. Some 1/5th ov the realm is forest,
another 20% being scrub || barren/relatively unfertile. Pastures
&& fields cover most ov the remainder. In the mountainous
region && along the Bulgarian border to the N there are wild areas
in which bears, some few maneless lions, wolves, boars, deer, etc,.
can be found. Most such areas belong to the Crown || to nobs.
Philippi, || Pera, is the Aeropean Bosporus port city, && although it is
not as wealthy as Byzantium, its small harbor is active, && considerable
TRADE passes through.
The volk are ov a very mixed sort, && although the Grecian
predominates, they have Kelltic, Teuto-Mongol, && Western Azirian
admixture from past waves ov invading peoples. They have always
managed to throw off the yolk ov conquest, however, && assert their
nationality. The peasant class ov Thrace is composed ov some 10%
villeins, the remainder being free tenants, laborers, fishers,
craftsmen, etc. The middle class is small && comprised mainly ov
tradesmen, artisans, && merchants, w/ the land-owning nobility
being least numerous. The aristocracy is comprised ov a small #
ov professional warriors, officials ov various sort, the high priesthood,
&& nobility.
Wheat, maize, barley, oats, && rye are harvested here in good
quantities. Beans, peas, lentils, taters, && many sorts ov other
veggie crops are raised. Currants && olives are Xtensively cultivated.
Cotton, tobacco, && carobs are ca$h crops. Vines are common.
Much fruit, incl. peaches, nectarines, apricots, almonds,
cherries, pears, plums, ++ mulberries for silk, is cultured.
Sheep, goats, && cattle are the main livestock, but there herds ov
warhorses are found here as well. Porks, mules && asses, ++
poultry, are also raised. Oxen && buffaloes are the major draft
animals, followed by mules && horses, w/ a few camels in the
southeastern portion ov the kingdom. Fishing is ov moderate importance,
