The dog is considered sacred to the cult of Osiris.
Interestingly, it is said that the gods come from the stars, from the Sirius system, the center of which is known as the Dog Star. This is echoed in the myth of the Dogon people, although they maintain that the dog-star is actually a triple-star.

So, a limited amount of dogs are trained for war, by the cult of Osiris, and, given to the cult of Anhur. In return, the cult of Anhur sometimes provides ceremonial guards for temples of Osiris, including those in the dangerous realms beyond Aegypt.
