Detect magic detects the intensity of magic. Any guidelines for setting the aura strength of magic items?

"Intense" is the highest level of magic radiation. Obviously reserved for artifacts, since nothing else can radiate such intense magic. Beyond PC creation capability.
"Very strong" I would relegate to permanent magic items in general. They all require 8th level spells (permanency) at the minimum .
"Strong" I would give to charged items. 6th level spells (enchant an item) are the minimum used in their creation.
"Moderate" I would give to potions and scrolls.
Related: I've decided that Nystul's magic aura can mimic any magic strength or type that the caster decides upon. The DMG came out after the PH, and the PH description is not specific--but otherwise it's a pretty lame spell.

Thanks, with regards to "Faint" && "Dim" -- what's your take on this?

I'd say a longsword temporarily enchanted by the 4th level spell enchanted weapon would register a "faint", while a statue with a magic mouth cast upon it would be "dim".
