Ok cool looks like we will have a party Character creation/rulesetB/X rules, by the book (except for starting gold, see below) Character creation: roll 4d6 and keep best 3 die, arrange in any order. You can't do the reduce by 2 to add 1 thingy Starting gold: Everyone starts with 2d6x10 gp, except for magic users who start with 1d4x10 gp. Starting hit points: you can re-roll if you get a 1 or a 2 Magic Users start with a spell book with 8 random 1st level spells. Roll a d12 8x and re-roll any duplicates. The list of 12 available 1st level spells is on pg B16. Clerics: Pantheon: Let's use the Norse Mythos from Deities & Demigods, pg 98. Pick one based on your alignment and preference Campaign setting: I am going to use the map below 'Norwald Coast', although this will primarily be a short dungeon crawl type expedition If someone wants to play some type of variant class that is reasonable in power level from I think it was Barrataria published a book, and B/X blackrazor published one I would likely accept that. You can go ahead and post your characters here in this basic format: Rocco the Dwarf HP: 6 AC: 2 XP: 0 Attributes: STR: 11 INT: 10 WIS: 11 DEX: 11 CON: 12 CHA: 9 Saves: Death Ray or Poison: 10 Magical Wands: 11 Paralysis or Turn to Stone: 12 Dragon Breath:13 Rods, Staves, or Spells: 14 Languages: Common, Alignment Appearance: Male, Decrepit, Scant Clothing, Ugly Equipment: * Plate Armor * Shield * Sword * Dagger * 6 Torches * Backpack * Waterskin * 1 Week Iron Rations * 10' Pole Monies: * 4 gp

Do we use a specified dice roller?

Post by mullmann on Oct 1, 2014 22:50:37 GMT
You can use invisible castle if you like, but this will mainly be honor code so just rolling dice on your own is fine. I will likely do most of the dice rolling that way during the game and post results to keep things moving. I am brutally honest/fair with dice rolls. Respect the dice!

Looks good Huthor except you can re-roll 1s or 2s on a hit points roll. (I edited the char creation guidelines at one point)
Also go ahead and choose a God/Deity based on the instructions. If you don't own Deities & Demigods I can pick one for you
thanks

Yeah, re-rolled the hps. I have the book somewhere, but cant find it, so if you could pick a god, would be great. I know the basics of most norse gods.
EDIT: Holy symbol required to Turn?

Cool you can go with Thor (god of thunder) if you like, but would need to switch your weapon to a war hammer.
You would need a holy symbol to Turn

Donnerwetter the Dwarf Level 1 Neutral Alignment
Str: 15 Int: 17 Wis: 9 Con: 9 Dex: 8 Cha: 8
HP: 6/6 AC: 5
Languages: (dwarf standard list) + white dragon, elvish.
Stuff: Mace, Shield, Chainmail, Sack tied to a stick, wineskin full of cheap red, Lunch x 7, Dwarven equivalent of Mein Kampf.
Donnerwetter is old, white bearded, quite frail and skinny for a dwarf. But he's got that old man strength and a mean streak. Wears his old grey clothes under his chainmail and a crimson hooded cloak. In a movie version he'd be played by Udo Kier.

I'll blush at the dice rolls now. Noggin Thornogsson Hobbit Str: 14 Int: 10 Wis: 13 Dex: 17 Con: 16 Cha: 15 HP: 4 rolled +2 for constitution = 6 + 6 + 8 + 4 = 24 A/C: 7 (leather) -2 for dexterity = 5 Languages: Hobbit and Common Stuff: Large felt 'Guy Fawkes' style hat, natty green tartan (Thornog tartan) jacket, stylish short brown cape, leather under-vest (leather armour - 20GP), short bow (25GP), 20 arrows in a small quiver (5GP), small sword (7GP), small sack (1GP) containing 7 days worth of grub (5GP), furry wine skin full with a quart of tasty red wine (2GP), tinder box (3GP), a bundle of 6 torches tied up with string (1GP), leather purse tied with string around his neck containing 1GP in silver coins. Noggin is the third son of Noggood Thornogson of Clan Thornog. Far to the North Thornogs have been weaving tartan cloth for generations a tradition of which they are very proud. He came South to sample the life of high adventure however he is still very much a farm boy at heart. Not too bright he is canny enough to know that fighting big folks will get you killed so he is happiest firing his tartan fletched arrows at stuff or better still hiding in the bushes until they pass by. Noggin sails South.

*GAME THREAD* You all get sick of the farm life, or fishing or whatever and make a decision to head out and seek a life of adventure. You band together, and having no previous knowledge or what to do to become adventurers head north on foot. The Magician with you - Malcazar the Magnificient has heard tales of a fabled Wizard of some notoriety named Uldakk the Underhanded that apparently dwells in a frontier type City called 'Utherton' on the edge of the northern steppes. You have heard his powers to be wondrous and his experience immense and therefore may be of assistance to you with adventuring work or treasure maps or knowledge of ancient ruins. Map www.pandius.com/NorthernNorwold.jpgYou can't afford horses or beasts of burden so you strike out on your journey sleeping in encampments along the way. It is late autumn and frost forms on the ground overnight. You hear the calling of the wolves echo off the hills. After several days your rations are getting low and you enter a rather un-assuming Village that according to your map must be Utherton. It is mid evening around 6pm and is getting dark rapidly. Smoke rises from the chimney of a building resembling a tavern. A wooden sign creaks in the wind. On it is the likeness of a large warty toad and the name The Horned Frog InnWhat are your actions?

Seeing an (assumed) tavern, even one with such an un appealing name, Noggin smiles a toothy hobbit grin and hurries towards it digging a silver coin from his purse as he goes. Is there a warm golden light spilling from it's windows? Does the rich laughter of horny handed sons of the soil fresh from the fields reach his wind chilled ear holes?

Gerin frowns.
While drinking Jotuns under the table was fine sport for Thor, more practical matters than taverns occupied his thoughts.
And he was loathe to watch others drink while his own supply of coin was so low.
Good will never fills the jug! - as his old mentor often used to inform him. - You have to throw down the money to go with it!
With a sigh, he turns to the magician.
"Malcazar, I will return within an hour or two. If you're no longer at this establishment, leave word with the tavernkeep. I'm going to seek out what passes for temples in this......" He pauses to give the surroundings a disdainful look. ".....town. Perhaps I can arrange for a pallet and a free meal for the night from a brother priest."
Casting a wary eye on the departing hobbit, he adds:
"It will also give me a chance to ask what they might know about this 'Uldakk'. Make sure the hobbit minds himself around the locals."

"I'll join you at the temple, brother Gerin...", says Donnerwetter who also worhips Thor under the name of Donar.
If a local is met on the way, Donnerwetter will try to ask about Uldakk.

It is starting to get dark out as Donnerwetter and Gerin head off to check out the town and seek a Temple...
The town of Utherton has seen better days. Mainly you find farmsteads with people rasing swine and goats. The men here appear hagard and rough. Many still hunt for their meat. You get the drift that this town has been raided many times and the people still residing here have become hardened.
A small shrine to Thor is all you find. A man tells you that some of the Temples were raized during a raid by pig faced Orcs awhile back and never replaced. The man has heard of the legendary Wizard named Uldakk, but mentions a fiery explosion destroyed his manse outside of town a few decades ago..
Meanwhile Noggin and Malazar enter the Tavern. The place is quite worn and sparse. There is a fire going and it smells of cooking meat. Noggin strikes up a conversation with a dingy looking hobbit who appears quite drunk swinging his legs from a barstool. The hobbit's skin is darker than most he has seen and he appears to be dirty and drunk. "Bolo Darkfeets at your service. What say I am running a bit low on coin can you buy a drink?" He looks Noggin and Malcazar over from head to toe seeing their weapons and Noggin's armor. "What brings you to town? Bolo knows all the dirty little secrets everywhere.."

"Orcs....", Donnerwetter mutters. Only thing that he hates more than orcs is elves. And maybe the dwarfs of the Goldburg clan. He nods a half-assed thank you to the man and turns to the cleric.
"After evening prayers, I guess we should bring the news to the rest of the chaps.", he says as he kneels in front of the shrine. He quickly prays for Doner to bless his weapons to strike like lightning, especially if they meet orcs. Or elves. After finishing, he'll wait for Gerin to finish his priestly duties.

Gerin glares at the small shrine.
"No meal, nor bed for tonight then I fear."
He makes a brief prayer before the holy site and then rises to his feet.
"And little in the way of information. Might I suggest Donnerwetter, that if we must spend a night both hungry and cold, we do it to some small profit at least? When we return to the others, we should immediately set out for whatever ruins yet remain of this manse. If Thor grants us favor, we may run across a few careless orcs."
Under his breath he adds:
"And crush their skulls, loot their purses and ensure TOMORROW night we do get to eat and sleep somewhere warm."

Noggin shakes Bolo warmly by the hand passing hobbity pleasantries regarding his fine dark feet. Orders pies and lots of ale and passes the bill onto Malazar "Oh and add on our rooms for the night as well please barkeep. Thanks Malazar, you're a brick!" He suggests taking a comfortable seat before the surprised wizard can turn him into something horrid or worse still saddle him with the account. After pie and beer he will ask questions about the area, dropping in the odd enquiery about Uldakk and his tower. Should it look like his new spellslinger friend or the barman is likely to be bringing a reckoning or even going to catch him for more beer he will be conveniently 'at the lavatory' or will have gone to his comfortable bed. He will rise very early, breakfast well and leave to find his chums. Hopefully before embarrasing questions about money are raised. If they are he will (as he walks away quickly) wave towards the magic user sleeping upstairs and mumble something about "Oh my man Malazar looks after the cash..."
