Topic: 'Personality' for PCs
(See DMG.100-101) (See Characteristics for PCs, DMG.11)
I sometimes think of applying the rules on page 100-101 to PCs. Why should NPCs get all the detail? This is just theory, and it would be interesting to hear what people think.
Myself, I think that the application of that section to PCs would enhance and encourage role-playing. (And, Yes, I am quite the roll-player, myself, too!).
Quick list:
1) Adjustment to Ability Dice Rolls for NPCs I would not be averse to apply these to PCs.
2) Alignment Random alignment? Egads! That might be a bit of a thorn for some people. That said, remember that your character's Alignment defines one's past. It can be changed in the future. The idea of a CE character seeking redemption appeals to me, too.
3) Possessions This can be linked to social class. Yes, some characters will have no equipment or money, and, some will have perhaps x2 or even x4 wealth. Perhaps, even x10!
4) Age Note that this table includes children, it seems. In theory, cap abilities at age level, noting the original score. Ancient characters might die through the process. (Like Traveller).
5) General Appearance Is your character a grimy ruffian, or, a immaculate person?
6) Sanity Yikes... is someone in the party a homicidal maniac? Who knows...
7) General Tendencies Although the DMG mentions using three of these abilities...
