Devilman, bitches! Motherfucking Devilman!
For those who don't know, Devilman is a classic manga (Japanese comic) from the 1972, by the legendary manga writer/artiest Go Nagai. Its about a timed teenager with a pure heart named Akira Fudo, who was forced to become the half-man/half-devil superhero "Devilman" to fight the regular devils who prey upon defenseless humans. There is a lot of gratuitous sex, nudity, violence and gore that often intermingles into a disturbing orgy of body horror (in the world of Go Nagai, there is no such thing as "too gratuitous"). Akira/Devilman is put through emotional hell, as people he care for are tortured and/or killed in horrible ways, and things get really fucking heavy! Each Devil featured is unique — great fodder for any DMs looking to create a lot of Demons, Devils and Hoardlings... with an emphases on mutated titties. It is a fucking self-indulgent fantasy and that is a good thing! (You can read the whole series here, in English.)
The Netflix original, Devilman Crybaby is a condensed (10 episode) retelling of the classic manga, updated for the modern times (the internet plays a big roll in the series, a Go-Go club where Akira first becomes Devilman is now a rave, and the gay stuff is a lot less sub-textual). First, this was not "nerfed" for the west: Its has all the gratuitous stuff and then some! Secondly, despite the '90s OVA schlock in display (mature themes, exaggerated dialog and reactions, and such), it is well animated (good use of colors, camera angles, and animation styles), well acted, and the writing is really good, all while not feeling rushed (which is common with super-condensed series). All-and-all, a damn great series! Here is the trailer:
