Does anyone use these in their game? There is a detailed article in Dragon #123 that details wizard's schools. It details the school from a high-level PCs point of view, where the magic-user is running the school (in effect, the article details followers for high-level magic-users). For "Harry Potter" type adventures, see the 0-level rules in Greyhawk Adventures.

I have used magic schools. I liked the idea from the Krynn setting, but could not implement it satisfactorily IMG. Then, 2nd edition came about.
Like many 1E'ers, although I liked and appreciated what 2e did with magic schools, something was lost. The Illusionist just wasn't nearly as cool in 2e.
As for more "brick and mortar" schools, I have envisioned those as an Elven thing: the Elven Towers of High Magic , that sort of thing. Great marbled halls with impeccable arboretums.
In my current campaign imaginings, only one Elven Tower remains in the control of elves. Another is in the hands of a Federation of Wizards, and the third, once the greatest of them all, is in ruins.
