Where's that image from?
Graphic style rings a bell from something...

IIRC, the image is from either GATEWAY TO THE SAVAGE FRONTIER, and/or TREASURES OF THE SAVAGE FRONTIER.
These were SSI computer games done back in the early 90s, set in the Forgotten Realms.

That means that he has 2 languages available to him. In AD&D, you don't have to fill your language slots right away. I think I'll take Polish and Chinese though.

Rag's debut.
Review of tonight's session Tuesday 2nd July 2013.
Players. Goonergeezer Efnisien Prespos Urieal Mr. Bones the skeleton Wolf the mercenary
A short session this week due to unavoidable circumstances. But one where we were happy to welcome two new players, Prespos with his fighter Rag Snaegasson and Urieal with his teenage wizard Ur. Just a few encounters but ones that leave us in no doubt (as if there was any) about the wicked nature of dungeon builder and all round bad egg Mortuna the Magnificent. Firstly a room more reminiscent of a summers meadow than a pokey dungeon chamber. A few missed arrow shots gave away the position of an invisible foe, Maranwe's sleep spell caused the creature to fall revealing itself as the Sprite Axel, ensorcelled by Mortuna to commit a wicked act before he could go free. The magnanimous actions of the party saw him sent back on his way to faerie home. Next a room of boiling sand and sunshine inhabited only by an ugly (and smelly camel). This nasty creature spat at Rag and was then skewered by our favourite elf. It too turned out to have been a victim of Mortuna's polymorph magic and the poor man that had been held in that awful form was healed and sent on his way too. Next saw a water filled room with a stone plinth. much to Ur's delight, with a scroll tube on top. This was rescued by faithful old Bones and contained two magical parchments. One of Polymorph Other and a second in a script not known to our heroes.
We'll take it from here next week.
Best Chris

Thanks Chris!
Guys, that was the campaign journal for the Castle Redstar campaign, one of the most fun (and most challenging!) mega-dungeons in the history of ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS.
That was my first session playing Rag Snaegasson (Rag the Fighter), when he was 1st level, 2 years ago. As the common saying goes: "Time flies when you're having fun!".
Here's a big thank-you to Chris107 for excellence in game design and DMing.
With regards to the former, I'd like to add a brief note here, comparing the work of Chris to that of Official TSR. You see, as a writer/designer, Chris has a good sense of balance (difficulty, challenge, etc.), which is very important when writing/designing an adventure.
Although I do love reading WG7 Castle Greyhawk, an award-winning Origins adventure, I must say that it would have been even better if Chris had been involved in the final editing/writing!
Game, Prespos

Rag went looking for henchwoman at the Blue Troll Bar & Brothel. He paid 300GP up front only to find out her name was Derek. Amazingly this flighty creature disappeared into the slums of Redstar soon after. Poor Rag

Review of Session 144 (one gross) 21st February 2016
The players and whom they played.
Goonergeezer with Maranwe Amalric playing Kolvar Prespos and Rag Sandor playing kimar
The 'What the Hell happened?!
'4 days ago' Kaystar Saru breathed a big sigh of relief through lips crusted with his very life blood... he had found the secret tomb of Charellsfane and used the scroll given to him by Crowfinger to question the dead Mage and discovered the location of his mystical tower.. he had a few days to make it to Kelling's Leap unti the full moon then the Illhiedrin book would be his to deliver up to his Nerathi Necromancer master in the south. The sun was high when the rocky outcrop came into view. Suddenly he knew he was not alone. The sun was blocked out above him and he was buffeted as if by great wings. His blood ran cold.
The present day...
Our boys headed back towards the tomb of Charellsfane. They had spent some days healing, learning new spells and racing, naked and drunk on magical clouds. As they approached the rubble strewn entrance, Rag at their head, a cloak and cowled figure came towards them out of the darkness. Medusa! Yelled Kolvar but too late for the bold fighter. His eyes met with those of the monster and his flesh turned to stone. The creature was caught in sticky webs and questioned before been incinerated by Maranwe. They searched within and found the desecrated sarcophagus and resting place of Charrelsfane. Using the scroll they found that Saru had beaten them to it but he told them there was still hope. They must be at Kelling's Leap by midnight and as the moon was at its zenith they would see his hidden tower. They had flown on quickly to the hills and spent the evening circling on their magical flying rug keeping an eye out for the wicked Kaystar Saru, little knowing his fate. As the full moon spread its soft glow across the plane the shimmering, ghostly tower appeared. As the carpet could carry only two Maranwe and Kolvar flew towards the tower while the young wizard ran along behind (They had decided to abandon their dear friend Rag at the mouth of the tomb). Kolvar cast invisibility and was dropped off at 100', creeping to within 40' as Maranwe went back to pick up the Mage. Returning they passed over the invisible elf's head, flying towards a rune marked archway leading to a door within. When ..... BOOM! They were struck by a huge lightning bolt! Kimar was slain instantly, Maranwe badly injured and the flying carpet ruined. The elf plummeted towards the ground but saved himself at the last moment, using his ring to Dimension Door away from danger. Kolvar followed suit but the huge Dragon Alcatrix that had been curled around the tower cloaked with invisibility! Bold Kolvar turned to make a stand. Blasting the huge beast with a huge Fireball (38/19HP), Maranwe once again used his ring and fled to the far side of the tower. Alcatrix breathed again and the Wood Elf failed to dodge and was laid low by the electrical blast. The Dragon began swooping around looking for the 'one who got away'. Maranwe took a chance and did a running drop kick on the tower door. As he passed through the rune covered arch it flowed blue and exploded in a shower of sparks. His charred corpse landed inside the enchanted tower floor. Is this the end for our gang? Please all keep a note of the negative HP you were on and we will find out next week![br

Stoned, but not dead.
Interestingly, in The Ecology of the Basilisk, by Ed Greenwood, Dragon #81: Ed goes into the details of what happens when you are stoned. (Note to self: remind Chris that Rag needs to make a system shock check). Anyway, according to Ed, one retains a kind of consciousness when stoned. In theory, a stoned person can still use psionics, though I am not sure about this. However, one thing is quite clear in Ed's writing: there is a chance of going insane.
IF someone rescues Rag, and, that is a big IF: will he be the same person as before?

Taran the wiziard unrolled the parchment scroll supplied by Lady Alcastra. He intoned the magical words and the mystic symbols upon it began to writhe and blaze. The statue moved, ever so slightly at first but then the stone crumbled and Rag was revealed within. His hand reached out unsteadily and grasped the flask of ale held out by Hoskuld, he drank deeply. "Got any more?" He asked.
