Gardner Fox was instrumental in ushering in the superhero revival at DC Comics in the late 50's. Most of his work in comics was at DC, but he did do some occasional work for Marvel, like that really weird Dr. Strange storyline featuring Kathulos. What's especially odd about those stories is that each chapter tips the hat to the works of Robert E. Howard, but the obvious influence of HP Lovecraft in those same stories goes completely unacknowledged. It's also worth mentioning that Fox co-created Dr. Fate, which included a bunch of slight references to HPL.
It's kinda cool to think that a superhero was fighting the Great Old Ones all the way back in the early 40's.

Remember reading: Kothar, barbarian swordsman years and years back.
Was great stuff if you liked the sparse style.
Had to look it up on wikipedia to see if it was the same guy.
