One can be both King & Duke at the same time... anyway, let's say Savoy is yours, now.
You still retain hegemony over your 6 cantons in Helvetia, while retaining fealty to King Gygax.
Savoy was part of the Gallic Treaty / Carolingian Empire.
Now, it is soon possible that 8 realms, led under Charlemagne, with declare war on Savoy.

Duke's move today Diplomacy
Main effort is capturing the "hearts and Minds" of Savoy, BIG Carrot, little stick, primarily though parties and adopting "Parliament of Savoy" among the nobles and upper class, with the Duke maintaining control over the military and external policy(the foundation of empire) and a bill of rights for the lower classes.Publicly known long term plan is for Lower House of Commons to represent middle class
Duke takes 1/2 of Savoy treasury and picks several of the most unpopular(as judged by their servants and relations w/ other Nobles) Upper class and strips them of wealth and property, exiling them, CN, LE, NE and CE churches are burned and ransacked clerics put to the sword.Specificly to elevate status of middle and lower class. "Parliaments" first law is the Duke will not further encroach on Nobles. Land to be divided up amumg Upper class, Money split Five ways Duke/middle class/public works for lower classes and parties/bonus for remaining Savoy Army/Bonus for Canton Troops
Duke also publicly announces his intention toward a political marriage(VERY begrudgingly, at the insistence of the Canton Council)
This is a four day plan so will make next move on Wendsday
