Anyone play any of these? The ULTIMA games were my first experience of CRPG. I have some awesome memories of 3-6 of us crowded around a Commodore 64 playing/observing Ultima III: Exodus, which seemed mind-boggling at the time. A few years later, I had the great fortune to be playing Ultima V on a Tandy 1000, quite the machine in its day, which ended up looking like this: Ultima V has a fairly interesting spellcasting system, using spell components (reagents) and cast using Latin syllables. I spent untold hours in this game, but certainly never got close to "beating" or finishing the story. The last Ultima I played around with was Ultima VI, which was a quantum leap in graphics tech , going to 256 colors and also using Sound Blaster type sound. I've watched reviews of the rest of the series, and apparently Ultima VII was quite good also. BTW, Ultima IV is a freebie on GOG, has been for years.

I only ever played the Ultima Underworld series myself, never Ultima proper.

I played several of these but never beat them. My favorite was probably 4, the Avatar one. They also had a good First Person RPG called Underworld. That one blew me away, too.
The one CRPG that I really dug into was Might and Magic 1 & 2.
