Lemurians are 8 foot tall aquatic humanoid reptilians, with AC3 and HD3-3. (TWILIGHT OF ATLANTIS, page 14) They seem to be similar to the Dragon-Kings of BARBARIANS OF LEMURIA. Remember that there are other races on Lemuria, as well, as per BARBARIANS OF LEMURIA.

If you want to be a king of one of the realms of Lemuria, pick one, and I will fill out the template for your kingdom! ...? I'll have to get back to you on that one... I'm reading BARBARIANS OF LEMURIA right now, and, I think that I will use it as the default for all of the Lemurian pantheon realms. What do you think of the rules and setting? Do you know what the difference between the Mythic and Legendary editions is? In the words of Simon Washbourne: In the free edition, it is completely Lin Carter's Lemuria. In Legendary it is its own setting, but with more than a nod to Lin Carter's Lemuria. In Mythic, it moves even further away from Lin Carter's Lemuria and has lots more setting detail and tons more adventure ideas. It's the most complete version available - including rules for mass combat, naval combat, a whole adventure generator and almost double the content of Legendary. I should note that the rules in Legendary are more squared up with newer rules added. For example, armor is no longer a set of loose items like boots, bracers, battle-harness, skullcap and buckler, but instead classified as light, medium, heavy, etc. Hit points renamed to Lifeblood (LB) and Hero Points (HP) grants critical hits and small story changes. Perks and Flaws were added to adjust a character's chance with some tasks. They both add an extra die to your (2d6) roll, but you drop the lowest (for perks) or highest (for flaws), akin to the (Dis)Advantage Die rule in 5e D&D. A perk like Carouser grants bonus die to "gain information, make contacts or acquire goods and services whilst in a tavern.", while a flaw like Arrogant or Taciturn grants a penalty die when "dealing with people of other cities, where your arrogance (or silence) might annoy or offend them."I do not have Mythic, but to my knowledge, it it also revises combat so that players can prioritize attack speed vs attack damage, with light weapons always prioritizing speed, while heavy weapons always damage. There are other rule changes, but I cant remember them. They both keep that open-ended Profession system and simplistic 2d6(+Att+Skill) die rolls, which I really like about the game. Also, Lin Carter's Lemuria Saga (also called Thongor of Lemuria) is a mix of Conan the Barbarian and the Barsoom Saga. It is pure REH Sword & Sorcery, with some pulp-era sci-fi thrown it (flying ship, rayguns, etc.). I really like that combination.

Thanks for the excellent post! 1. I can be Taciturn. In AD&D, that should be a -% on one's TALK roll. 2. With regards to Aerth, I absolutely want to MOVE things away from Gary's 17th c. template, and more towards S&S/Appendix N. (cf. "High Tech && Hijinks", DRAGON #114). 3. Following #2, above, I would guess that the Free Edition of BARBARIANS OF LEMURIA has the most application to my vision of Aerth. Prespos Ps. Malcadon: Post more bewbs, or, I will ban you.

I hate the idea of taciturn being just a TALK penalty. Role-playing the taciturn trait should amount to saying vary little, save for highly appropriate and witty '80s action one-liners. (e.g. most of Schwarzenegger's memorable quotes) 2. Yeah, I hate the Meddle Ages and Renaissance eras myself. What I like about a setting like the Hyborian Era is that is based on ancient times. In such a setting, there are no gunpowder weapons, major monotheistic religions, witch burning, etc. Plus, classical antiquity got a lot more fun shit going on! Just read the old myths and legends. 3. Cool! PS... Ban my fat ass!! Oh wait! "Post more bewbs, or, I will ban you." Can do...

Thanks Mal! I have this distant memory of "MESSALANI", but, I just can't seem to place it. With regards to bewbs, every bewb you post gives you 1 more hour, per bewb. 2 hours, Admin Ps. Seriously, though: even though Red Sonja might not understand, I heavily ascribe to the ethics of Swords & Sorcery. That, there, is the crux of my endless demand for more bewbs. Ps2. OK, I admit: I sacrifice nubile virgins, in order to keep my youth, or, to summon demons to do my bidding. Mainly, to keep my youth: I ran out of money for Maybelline products. Ps3. I heartily detest the emasculated and politically correct lack of moral fiber among today's gamers. Ps4. In other words, one should destroy society, NOT submit to it. Barbarism is the natural state of the human race: this society is nothing more than a temporary infection. Civilised mankind remains in thrall to their reptilian overlords, and, it is well known that reptiles are offended by the site of bewbs.

Barbarism is the natural state of the human race: this society is nothing more than a temporary infection. Civilised mankind remains in thrall to their reptilian overlords, and, it is well known that reptiles are offended by the site of bewbs. I'm counting 8 in the bottom image alone. (10 if you count the man-boobs.) PS1) Ethics of Swords & Sorcery? OK..? The funny thing is that in the world of REH's Conan, Red Sonja from the comics is not at all canon. At the time, writers where canalizing Howard's other yarns to full-out Conan's adventures. So they took Red Sonya of Rogatino from The Shadow of the Vulture and Dark Agnes de Chastillon from Sword Woman — both of whom are 16th century European women — and remade them into the redheaded spark-plug from the comics. Red Sonya of Rogatino became a pirate legend to rescue her sister form the Ottoman Sultan's harem. She became strong by her own convictions, and to rescue her sister. Dark Agnes de Chastillon became a masterful swordswoman after escaping a forced marriage and nearly being sold into someone's harem. She became strong by her own convictions, so the world would take her more seriously as a person. I have no idea why the gang rape and oath of celibacy were important to her development as a warrior-woman. If anything, being ganged-up and fighting off the rapists would give her the drive to never be put in a helpless situation, while also finding her innate prowess for combat. She should have also been written as a woman who owns her self and her sexuality. That is, she would have no strong sense of modesty — with a "look bout don't touch" mentality — and she'll freely fuck anyone she desires. Unfortunately, the comic book writers did not have such foresight. As for the "chainmail bikini"... Well, that started out as a comic convention pin-up art that was so popular, they put it into the comics. Before that, she had short-shorts, and a simple mail shirt. To me, the "armor bikini" looks like coins held by wires, akin to belly-dancers and gypsies. Which actually makes sense in the setting, as I have read notes on the setting that coins are often strung-up and used as decoration in that fashion. Its not so much about being skimpy armor, but is just a fancy wallet for a nudist. Unfortunately, the comic book writers just wanted skimpy armor. Imagine this, less like decoration, and more like a walking coin purse: (My nipple chafe just seeing that, and I'm a dude!) Be it male or female, I have no issue with casual nudity in fantasy. It fact, prefer fantasy art with it, and I find strategically-placed modesty covers (hair, arms, foreground objects, etc.) to be even less tasteful then all-out hardcore pornography! PS2) As Bal-Sagoth put it in The Chronicle of Shadows: "Know that I have cavorted beneath the horned moon with repellent fiends, and liberated virgins from the burden of their maidenhood."Words to live by! PS3) Same here. PS4) We all have that phase were we want civilization to collapses and the world turn to a Mad Max version of itself... But that would mean giving up cars, fast food, and the internet. I cannot survive without my internet!!! ...plus, people are innately altruistic and communal. People are prone to coming together during disasters and upheavals for mutual survival, and to do selfless acts for the sake of the "social contract". OK, enough of that deep thought shit! Its giving be a headache! Lets return to some gender-one-sided escapist sword & sorcery fantasy! "I'll buy that for a dollar!"

I really liked that post, and, it looks like I should be able to place Red Sonja somewhere on Aerth. I'll look into whether or not Byzantium takes slaves. With regards to some of the above, I was just writing from a point of view akin to that of both REH and Conan. In real life, though I do hate some things about society, I have to admit that we've come a long way. No slavery, human rights, and... a dawning ecological awareness. At the end of the day, I love Canada, so, that trumps my moments of barbaric inspiration. And yes, we have the internet, too. Thanks for the great images: you do indeed have an eye for art!

Red Sonja is Hyrkanian — the Hyborian equivalent of Ukraine. Like wise, her inspiration, Red Son ya, is Russian. Howard's pragmatism of civilization came form growing-up in Texas' corrupted oil-boon era, followed by The Great Depression, and a number of other contributing fractures from the time. There was a mentality at the time that "The Great Experiment" (U.S. Democracy) was a failure and that the U.S. was dying a slow death with no recovery in sight. Thanks! When its comes to finding information and artwork online, my Google-Fu has no equal.

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Luhiva Jungle (pg. 122) This northwestern section of Lemuria, bounded by the Ofua Mountains to the south, is inhabited by wild tribesmen and horrible beasts found nowhere else, including a giant form of the Komodo dragon (see: Colositor, pg. 69 in the Mythus Ærth Bestiary) and a 3' long variety of venomous spider (Toxin: 10/10/5). A freshwater fish very similar to the piranha of Amazonia is found in many of the streams in this region. In addition, there are wild pigs, jaguars, lemurs, boas, crocodiles, parrots, toucans, and hawks; as well as prehistoric species like thylacotherium, boerhyaena, machairodi, and glyptodont. The jungle is mostly tree ferns, black beech, calophyllum trees, eucalyptus trees, fig, and many varieties of ferns, creepers and flowering plants. Mangroves, coconuts and candelabra pines dot the coasts. Expeditions from Tonuia have vanished in this region, but the Phagu of Hiluo to the east has a device that exercises some control over the terrible creatures dwelling here, and allows passage of small groups from that nation. In addition to the aforementioned hazards, typhoid, malaria and dysentery are prevalent enough to make the region even more hostile to outsiders!

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Movare Desert (pg. 135) This is the desolate home of the Eahoi Tribes, who subsist as nomadic bandits. They often use an archaic form of camel-llama (Camelops) for mounts. The predominant vegetation here is various cacti, mulga, grasses, and some pandanus palms near the coast. The Ao Mountain Range stretches along its southern border, separating it from the Caconeate of Mu. To the east in the Gulf of Chuna dwell particularly huge cuttlefish, and one 50-foot specimen is said to be an incarnation of Fe’e, the god of war, to whom human sacrifices are sometimes given.

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Pukare (pg. 149) Primitive tribes inhabit this mysterious jungle area of Lemuria, and there are many dangerous bogs and quicksand patches in the northern region. Typical flora includes tree ferns, dubautia trees, sandalwood, coconut, breadfruit, papaya, mango, pepper trees, strangler fig, taro, hibiscus, tiare, geraniums, orchids, ferns, and lobeliads. The ill-rumored Lake of the Moon (Kamahina‘roto) is located in the center of this jungle; formed possibly by the collapse of a large volcanic crater. Rumors say that there are strange volcanic caverns under and around the lake, fraught with sulfur pools, tar pits and gas pockets. Evil undead known as mauli are said to dwell here, the servants of the dread amorphous and phosphorescent demon-god Terrim’ta. To the west, in the Bay of Sharks, is said to lurk a particularly huge specimen of Carcharodon megalodon that is believed to be an avatar of the shark god, Ukupanipo.

From: Epic of Aerth Addenda, by Gregg Timm. Roahu Tribes (pg. 151) This area is a loose confederation of tribes who maintain their independence due to their ferocity in combat. They maintain guarded neutrality with Rowona and Wipoona, and indulge in only minor skirmishes with the Eahoi to the east and Hiluo to the west. Their main concern is with the ever-expansionistic Muavinapu Princes to the southwest. The land here is mostly well-watered plains and hills.

" Lemuria is a chain of large islands east of Thuria. Following the cataclysm that ended the Thurian age, these islands sank into the sea. The surviving Lemurians escaped to the east coast of the Thurian continent but were enslaved by an unnamed pre-human race. After enduring more than a thousand years of brutal slavery, the Lemurians were reduced to a state of savagery. They eventually rose up and destroyed their masters, the survivors of whom escaped to the south of Thuria to form the nation of Stygia. The Lemurians eventually became the Hyrkanians of the Hyborian Age and formed the country of Turan on the edge of the Vilayet Sea. The Hyrkanians played a part in destroying the Hyborian civilisations some unspecified time after the Conan stories. The stories assert they eventually became the Tatars, Huns, Mongols, Pashtuns and Turks of the modern age.[1]"

The Lemurians are well-known for their use of sorcery, the Art of summoning fiends from the Lower Planes. As a result, Type III Demons (Glabrezu) are found here: some are bound, whereas others have escaped from their former masters. To make matters worse, it is said that they have the ability to gate in other demons. At present, it is unknown as to why Lemuria has not been over-run by demons, but some sages think that this is a possible scenario, one day.
