AKA Gamma World 7th Edition, AKA Gamma World 4e (if you're a dumbshit)
So, I finally went and bought this the other day, $17 US, still in shrinkwrap. Not a bad deal, I reckon. I have yet to really dig into it, but I do know one thing- all that "you can only play our published adventures" and the collectible card element are right out. I'm curious who the idiot at WotC was that thought such skeeziness was a good idea.
Anyway, this is the version of the game that seems to have cast off any pretensions that GW is anything other than a an episode of Thundarr the Barbarian on bad LSD. Or Kamandi. Maybe closer to that, since it seemed like Jack Kirby was on the funny mushrooms sometimes.
GO FULL RETARD!

I dont know much about the 7th GW, but classic GW never maintained such "pretensions". It was crazy, gonzo form the get-go! This is my take on the craziness of Gamma World. (Actually, its a comparison between the gonzo Kamandi style vs the hard-edge Mad Max style and how they relates to the game.)

I liked 7th ed, it was the only good thing to come out of the 4e rule set. It was a fun, fast paced, balls to the wall, pick up anything you see on the ground and use it as a weapon game. The rules for random mutation where concise and quick and people of all RPG experience felt like it was accessible.
This is pretty much the definiteness version for a beer and pretzels Role Playing.
