Anybody have a chance to run one or at least give that class a good once-over? I'm curious how and if they're handled differently.

I haven't had a chance to play one, but from what I remember they get d8 HD like Clerics and at a pretty low level can specialize as a fighting type thief. Sounds just peachy to me

Believe it or not, that's not a selling point for me. I'm very okay with a thief that avoids combat.

The thief is still a thief. The assassin does a ton of damage on single foes if he surprises them (or if a friend distracts them), but will be smashed to pulp easily by any other character class if he needs to fight on even terms. The acrobat can hardly be catched in a trap, but does less damage when backstabbing and just fights as bad/well as an assassin.
