BIRTH TABLES FOR D&D

Simply, this is an article about the random generation of character backgrounds.
How this relates to AD&D:
* Tables I and II will make a re-appearance in Unearthed Arcana, in a more detailed form.
* An article in Dragon #96 revisits this concept.
With regards to social class and birth rank:
* The DMG and UA take two different stances on the random generation of Social Class.
* Someone by the name of T. Foster recently uploaded an AD&D companion book, and, IMHO, he's made an improvement on the UA social class and birth rank tables. You can find the link for it in the signature of the first post that I've linked to.
So, here are the 2 questions for this article:
A) How do you handle character background in your games?
B) Using .php / .js / C# / etc. -- how long would it take to program in a background generator, using either the Dragon #3 / #96 / UA rules. Would it be possible to do this in a single afternoon?
