I've really enjoyed 5e, though I was somewhat unsure to start with. The rules seem to work unusually well at each level we have played so far. We are all between levels 10-13 at the moment and yet the challenge still seems as great as it did in the beginning. It suffers, like most high level play with single monsters but numbers of even quite modest foes remain dangerous. Magic is low and in general unnecessary. Keeping the armour classes moderate means that the high hit points are soon whittled away and with easy healing this gives a roller coaster feel rather than hacking away for ages waiting for the 20 that can happen in 1st edition. All in all a jolly good game

From another campaign, I found that (despite the overall great balancing), classes start to divert in power as they level. Barbarians and Clerics with their 1 minute powers easily outclass fighters, rangers and rogues at about level 5 against adequate foes. Strangely enough, the playing field is much more even if the GM sends in hordes of extremely weak foes, as the strength of both classes play much less of a role in that case.
