In Simon's Wilderlands/5e game we lost another of the original characters last week which got me thinking. The replacement character rules he uses gives the new guy 1/2 the XP of the deceased. This would mean if my Barbarian was next for the chopping block the new character would go from very nearly 9th to 7th level. I have been very lazy and only really looked at human barbarians (wanting to cling to the magic of not knowing the rules as long as possible). However with increasing character deaths maybe I should be planning a replacement? Any of you guys played enough to offer suggestions for class or race? Best Chris

I can't offer a helpful reply. Sorry. I've never raised a character past 5th, except my starter at 8th in Ath's game. I've also never played a barbarian. Heh, sorry chris. My advice is yes. Having backup characters is ideal. The nice thing about Barna10's is you can whip up any combo you want quickly. Leveling them up as needed is no big deal. I would just keep a folder of premade 1st-levels handy, and give them gear. Problem solved. PS. "The magic of not knowing the rules" hardly applies to you, IMO. You know them by heart, it seems. The not knowing the 5e rules really is part of the charm. Three encounters really spring to mind. The Gorgon, a Vrock and last night's epic fight with a Dragon. In 1e I'd have had a strategy in place to fight them. Would know what spells and attacks were most effective. But with a new system not only have the monsters changed considerably but the methods and spells have changed too. You can never completely recapture the sheer joy of the unknown but it goes a long way towards it

Think I hit 11th level tonight. Really must start looking at this stuff more carfully. Killed a T-Rex, met some Giant Owls and shared a bath with some Pixies
