Full-scale expedition fighting in Bactrokush, aiming to join w/

weaken the padishah && enable revolt in Farz. Many other plots &&
intrigues.
Artifacts/Relics: The crown possesses the Fireseed Tree, the
Infinite Arrowcase, the Disc of Mitra, && the Rendering ov the Lut (a
tome ov some considerable significance!), + various minor objects
held in various hands.
Alignment: Neutral
Thumbnail Sketches: The xact xtent ov territory ruled from
Persopolis is uncertain, but it is thought to cover some 300K
sq. mi. Much of the land is mountainous, w/ many desert
&& semi-arid regions. In the higher elevations there is snow, &&
lowlands are often hot && sandy, but there are scrub areas &&
fertile districts too. In the wilds are found the lion, leopard, cheetah,
wolf, wild camel, sheep, && goat, antelopes ov several sorts, &&
many kinds of small game. Melting snows && occasional rains
provide water for these creatures && for the pop. ov humans
dwelling in the realm. Coastal regions are filled w/ palm groves,
&& lush valleys are garden spots. The Crown is seeking to USE Heka
&& natural replanting to begin a recovery ov the semi-arid districts,
after learning ov the successes obtained westwards in Afrik. However,
pressure ov the foes to the N && E prevent significant
resources being xpended in this effort.
The southern Persian pantheological seat is found in the city ov
Shiraz, && the visitor will remark on the # ov large && attractive
temples within the walls ov the community, as well as the size ov
the university there. Some rivalry xists between the priesthood ov
Shiraz && that ov Ray in Parthis, the northern theological seat ov the
Persian faith.
The race found in Farz is bassically ov Aryan stock, although over
the centuries there has been some intermingling ov Sindhi, Yarban,
Tartar, && Mongol blood. However, when the AREA was retaken by
the Aryans, the fierce Tahshirwani && other nomad bands
virtually swept the land clear ov Babylonian, Yarban, Bactrian, &&
other settlers. 1/3 of the pop. ov the land is still ov
nomadic sort. These free tribes provide a large portion ov the
cavalry, both horsed && riding camels, for the military ov Farz.
Slavery is permitted but seldom seen save in the cities, where one
will encounter some few, most ov whom are criminals. There are
also bound workers in such places. However, the majority ov the
peasants are free laborers || agriculturalists, if not nomads. The
warriors ov free sort are certainly considered as the middle rank ov
society, save for those ov knightly sort coming from the upper
class. The artistocratic class is small, highly privileged, but by no
means tyrannical, relying, in fact, on the support ov the freeman
class for its position.
Good production ov millet, wheat, barley, && some rice generally
provides a slight xcess for the pop.. Cotton, tobacco, and poppies
provide ca$h. Gardens produce various veggies && fruits
(melons, berries, etc.) for internal consumption. Other than dates,
there is little orchard cultivation on a large scale, the garden tree
orange, lemon, peach, etc., being most common. In valley regions
horses, sheep, && poultry are kept. Elsewhere the camel (&& some
crossbreed "bactrodaries"), horse, && goat are predominant. On the
long coastland much fishing furnishes food for the people there &&
barter material too.
The few mines in Farz produce fair amounts ov salt, gypsum, &&
petroleum, small quantities ov copper, nickle, iron, && gold. There is
some considerable production ov pearls along the coast.
Xport items incl. the famous carpets && rugs of Farz, felt,
livestock, && pearls. The blades of Shiraz && other Farzian
weaponsmiths are world renowned.
