Somewhere in Russ, there is a village of hobbits, with a trove of weapons && armor hidden in one of the hobbit holes. The trove includes weapons and armor from around the world, from a no-dachi (which the hobbits can't wield) to a chakram to a Bohemian ear-spoon (which the hobbits can't wield, either). Some of these exotic weapons && armors (some of which are too big for the hobbits) are most assuredly magickal. Somehow, one of the hobbits (a high-level chef: see Polyhedron #26) has learned the Cantonese style of cooking, from the realm of Tongking. In the cabinet under his wok he keeps hidden several wakizashi, along with various hobbit-sized cleavers, santoku knives, etc. etc. This hobbit chef has also learned kung-fu from notes in the margins of his Cantonese cook-book, which is a magickal book that grants basic kung-fu after 1 month of study. The brown bear is common in the lands of Russ, and, is a national symbol. There are lejends of the tsarovinas, either berserkers, or, werebears that were capable of slaying hundreds of warriors in a single battle! As well, the new religion of Christianity, found only in Rome to the far south, preaches an apocalypse (as does Islam), and, that a part of this apocalypse is a "Great Bear" that will come from the lands of the Russ. Prophecy, often symbolic, is real, sometimes: sages and oracles sometimes interpret this as a forewarning of Russian military aggression into the lands of the Mare Librum. Other take the prophecy of the Christians more literally, interpreting the "Great Bear" as a goddess of Destructive Slavic Force, who will one day bring death and destruction to the human race. No one knows why. In the meantime, it is highly recommended that one should exercise extreme caution with regards to the brown bear. It should go without saying that one should immediately vacate the area of brown bear cubs: brown bear mothers are perhaps the most aggressively protective mammal to be found on Aerth. If worst comes to worst, and, one finds oneself engaged in mortal battle with a bear (incl. brown bear), then, it is said that a called shot to somewhere near the shoulders is effective, in that it will partly disable the bear's adrenalin. The truth of this is unknown, however.

Though primarily native to the Inner Aerth, some woolly rhinoceri are found in Siberia.

The Shashka (Adyghe: Сэшхуэ /IPA: [saʃxʷa]/ - big knife, Russian: (Шашка)) is a special kind of sabre; a very sharp, single-edged, single-handed, and guardless sword.
