Did you guys ever pick any of these books / box sets? Any thoughts on these? Are there any significant distinctions between the 90s D&D and the 80s BX/BECMI? Of course, the most famous 90s D&D release is the RC, which, I think was a pretty good start, with regards to the compilation of D&D resources. That said, I think it would have been more awesome if one day, someone goes with the MM/PH/DMG/DDG approach, for the D&D game.

That's when I started. First I got the Black Box and then the RC. Unfortunately, as a preteen, I quickly realized "Basic" D&D was inferior to "Advanced" D&D and I never looked back until I became an adult.
