The King of Elfland's Daughter, by Lord Dunsany, is a pretty good introduction to Fairie. The main point is: elves come from Faerie, another dimension/plane. They are not native to Aerth. I am seriously considering vulnerability to iron, and, susceptibility to the protection from evil spell. This doesn't change Gygaxian physics: it only extends it.

Here's a list of ideas for the political systems of Faerie. Perhaps, one day, there will be a list of 200 or so political systems, assigned to the 200(?) realms of Phaeree (Faerie). 1. Aurumvoraxocracy (thanks: fp) 2. Anomie (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 3. Communism (thanks: PapersAndPaychecks) 4. Asceticocracy* (thanks: PapersAndPaychecks) 5. Stratocracy (thanks: PapersAndPaychecks) 6. Augocracy (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 7. Floristocracy: Whoever binds the nicest bouquets rules. It is mandatory to say it with flowers. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 8. Idiocracy 9. Platocracy: A realm of philosopher kings. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 10. Thallassocracy: Only ship owners can be elected, but all seafaring personell is allowed to cast a vote. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 11. Calligracy, where the most beautiful written law is valid. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 12. Flamboyocracy: The guy or gal with the fanciest clothing rules! (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 13. Tearocracy: Whoever cries most runs the country, the High Crybaby. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 14. Clownocracy: Not to forget the clownocracy, whee whoever makes most people laugh rules. (thanks: kjatoragfoot) 15. Kleptocracy*** (thanks: kjatoragfoot) * ownership is punishable by the milking of specially-bred midget weasels, or, optionally mink. ** Where political decisions are based on clairvoyancy. *** Kjato Ragfoot: Prespos, do you already have a cleptocracy, where the best thief rules? Kjato Ragfoot: You need to steal the crown jewels to become next thief.
