While Malcazar finally musters the courage to actually try the rods, Noggin wonders if the octopus tank could actually be moved without the wizard's help. He's quite frail afterall, so Noggin and Gerin could very well be able to move it if they put the effort in.
Malcazar carlessly inserts the purple rods into each colour. When a rod goes into a hole with a mismatched colour, nothing happens. But when he sticks a purple rod into the hole in the purple part of the rainbow, a loud click can be heard.

"Quickly Gerin! Let's grab the tank before Malcazar can send us back." Hopefully the helpful cleric and the hobbit can get everything together in time.

Noggin is in rapture over the thought of having his very own zoo. He leaps and bounds around in a very un-hobbit like fashion, stuffing his pockets full of Yak and Porcuthingumy food and leading Gerin by the hand to grab the wonderful tank. "We'll probably have to give them their pretty statue back. They look quite sad without it."

Gerin makes the universal sign for peace towards the hobbit - he raises his mace over his head and makes nasty whirling motions.....
He then thinks better of it and tries a different tack.
"Consider," he says, "That any storage space can only contain a limited number of things. Say for example - a ship. We COULD take the yaks, the porcupines, the tank.....the captain might even be good natured about it despite his loss of cargo space."
He adopts what he hopes is a convincing sad expression.
"But then further consider, should we find something really great for your zoo - a dinosaur or a manticore - you would have to leave it behind. Simply no more room for it anywhere. Malcazar and I simply seek to ensure that your options are kept open. So leave the tank behind, and if the captain objects to the rest of your menagerie - I promise by Thor, to smite him most diligently."
Turning back with interest at the clicks brought about by Malcazar's activity, he adds to himself under his breath:
"Freaking hobbits....."

Not clicks. A single click when the pruple rod is inserted into the hole in the purple part. All other insertions make no click.
OOC: there's probably space on the ship for the yaks, the porcupines, the octopii, a few manticores and a medium sized t-rex...

Noggin is desolate. It seems that no one cares about the Octopussies. He wanders off to wish them well and then returns with the hay and makes sure his other animals are all safely together ready for the trip.

Malcazar - seems oblivious to his immediate surroundings and the hobbit as he sings away, "I don't worry Whenever skies are gray above Got a pocketful of rainbows Got a heart full of love."
Keeps sticking like colored rods in place. If it seems like they may be missing some colors/rods - he suggests they re-stow the rods they have and quickly double back to the appropriate rooms to find the ones they lack

Indeed all the rods you have now are purple from the purple room...

OOC: Hmm....try the room with the ghouls? Got a decent chance of turning them (though we really probably want to kill them instead for a variety of reasons. Otherwise, I can't remember where we've missed.

Malcazar - rests his chin on his palm in intentions of appearing thoughtful, "Say, the rods change colors when they enter a room, so as long as we have enough total rods all we gotta do is take the quantity needed of rods to each colored room, change the colors and then come back here and plug them in."
OOC: how many rods do we have? how many holes are there?

You have sixteen purple rods. There are six colours in the rainbow and each colour has a hole in it - Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Purple. The purple rod seemed to click into place in the hole in the purple colour, the others didn't just quite fit.

After feeding his animals Noggin tries taking one of the rods into the (yellow) Yak room and looks to see if there's a slot anywhere where it would fit.

Nogging takes a rod with him into the yellow room and the rod doesn't seem to notice. There's no obvious holes of any kind in there.
OOC: here's the description of the yellow room again - "A completely yellow room waits for you behind the door. The room has a yellow hay floor, with a grate beneath it (like in a barn). Across the back is a yellow fence with round posts and rod cross-pieces, and behind it a lovely mural of rolling fields."

They seem to be of roughly the same size.

Noggin gathers the yellow rods. Then goes to look in the Octopussy room. Anything rod shaped in there? Whilst looking he suggests that his chums carry the tank back to the rainbow room.

The yellow rods come off easily and Noggin gathers some of them.
In the orange room, the castle built into the octopus tank is made of rods of similiar size to the rods already in your posession.

Noggin takes one of the rods from the tank without splashing around too much. Then helps to transport the tank and it's slippery occupants to the rainbow room. "Back to the red room and look there for rod-like things. The bars in the windows maybe?

Noggin visits the red room, with the tied up prisoner still huddled unconscious in a corner. As he checks the window bars, he notices they are quite easy to yank off. Noggin now holds a red rod.

Gerin polishes his shield with his cloak.
Watching the current proceedings, he quickly realizes that the room with the green jungle gym and the ghouls is going to have to be entered into soon.
He takes a swig at his wineskin and regards his holy symbol.
"Never had to do this before." he muses. "Let's hope I have a good first run. Paralysis has no good sides to it."
After a moment , he amends the thought.
"It WILL stop Noggin going on about the damned tank though......"
He takes another long draw at the wineskin.
OOC: Anyone at lower hp's than me atm? Got one Cure Light Wounds left before we take them on.

Malcazar - "Ok all the rods and rainbows are making me a confused Wizard, but I think you are saying that we need to get some more rods from the room with the ghouls."
After pondering for an awkward moment with his chin again in his hand, "Wait aren't they ghoul children? They should be easy to trick, we don't have to fight them. Someone opens the door lures them out into the hall, parades them into the empty Yak room and closes the door back on them. Meanwhile someone else goes into their room and takes their rods. Nothing could possibly go wrong. "

OOC: just a note - I run ghouls more lovecraft than usual D&D, so while they are nasty corpse eating buggers, they are still sentient beings instead of just going "braaiinss..." and biting the nearest thing.

Noggin thanks Gerin for his cute spell (how many HP?) and then moves over to stand at the side of the door to the ghoul room.
